[ INDEX ] Equine Type: Horse Breed: Akhal-Teke Sport Horse (ATSH) [ PREV ] [ NEXT ]
The Akhal-Teke Sport Horse registry was created to record the breeding and deeds of horses with one Akhal-Teke parent. Despite a large increase in breeding in the latter half of the 20th century and up to the present time, fewer than 5,000 purebred Akhal-Tekes exist, most of them in Russia and Turkmenistan, with a rapidly growing number in China where they have always been prized. The crossing of the Akhal-Teke with other breeds of horse results in a horse more suited to modern horse sports, which are subtly geared toward the European Warmblood's size and movements.
Akhal-Teke Sport Horses are not as extreme in conformation as the purebred Teke, and they usually do not share the Teke's tendency to be a "one person horse" with quite definite tastes. They do inherit the intelligence, speed and flair--and often ego--of their illustrious parent.
Coats & Height:
Colors: bay, black, brown, chestnut, grey, champagne, dominant black, dun, silver-dapple, all cream dilutes, pearl, white.
Additionals: flaxen, linebacked, metallic, rabicano, roan, sooty, all 'appaloosa' patterns, all pinto patterns, all rare patterns.
Height: 14.2hh to 17hh.
