The American Warmblood (also known as 'AWR') is a breed of a sport warmblood.

About:
This relatively new breed was created during the second half of the 20th century, by crossing a variety of breeds with the aim of creating an athletic sport warmblood. It was officially recognized in 1981 with the foundation of the American Warmblood Registry.

Today, the American Warmblood is a popular breed in North America, and is used for Olympic disciplines, as well as for driving.

Breeding:
In order to ensure the ever-improvement of this breed, the studbook of the American Warmblood is open for recognized sport warmblood registries, as well as for American Quarter Horses and American Paint Horses.

That said, breeders in Horse Isle should remember that crossing a sport warmblood with a stock horse will likely result in a grade breed due to incompatible conformations.

Conformation:
Because of the open studbook policy, the conformation of American Warmbloods varies greatly between horses of this breed. In general, however, they all share the common "sport warmblood" characteristics of a long neck, long back, long legs, and an overall athletic conformation.

Colors & additionals: all colors and patterns except for mealy, but read notes below:

1) Dominant black, frame-overo, leopard, manchado, and splash-white don't naturally occur in this breed, but can be bred into it.

2) Champagne, mushroom, pearl, silver-dapple, and sabino-1 can be bred into this breed but will incur a small penalty, because these colors require a cross with a stock breed.
