[ INDEX ] Equine Type: Horse Breed: Austrian Riding Pony [ PREV ] [ NEXT ]
About:
Born in 1992, the Austrian Riding Pony is one of the newest sport pony breeds in existence. It is bred to serve as the ideal horse for recreational riding for both children and young adults, especially in the fields of show-jumping, dressage, and eventing.
Breeding:
The Austrian Riding Pony is still being developed, and its registry allows crossbreeding with a small number of breeds. In Horse Isle, we picked out of this list only the breeds that are likely to produce foals that have the conformation of an Austrian Riding Pony.
Conformation:
Overall, compared to other sport pony breeds, the Austrian Riding Pony has a compact conformation.
The neck is of medium length, broad at the base but tapers toward the head. The withers are prominent and connect to a medium-length back. The croup is long, muscular, and slightly sloping. The legs are slightly thick, with large joins, and the hooves are broad. The chest is large, and the body is somewhat muscular, finishing the 'compact' look.
The mane is short or medium in length, but the tail grows long.
