The Baguio is a small horse breed that originated in the Philippines. It is named after Baguio City, where it is locally known for its "pink" (dyed) mane and tail.

A short horse with a short story:
There isn't much known about the Baguio, except that it was created during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines by mixing Chinese horses imported from nearby China with Spanish horses imported during the period of colonization. Other breeds were possibly used as well, though their identity is unknown.

Today, the Baguio is used in the Philippines for both riding and pulling carts. It is extremely popular throughout the islands, but especially in the city of Baguio where it gets its iconic pink mane.

The iconic pink mane of the Baguio:
The most common usage for the Baguio is as a mount for tourists who visit the city of Baguio. The manes of Baguio horses whose coat is "white" (either white-grey or cremello) are colored with pink, which can vary from pastel pink, to 'highlighter-pink', to fuchsia pink. Their tails might be colored as well. Their chests and legs are sometimes colored with pastel pink.

Horses that have a different coat color from white-grey or cremello don't have their manes and tails colored.

Conformation:
Baguio horses have a straight profile, a short neck, a short back, a rounded croup that might be slightly flat, and angled hindquarters. They have slender legs and a squarish frame. Some can look very leggy compared to most other horse breeds.

The mane is short or medium in length, and will sometimes grow thick and bushy. When cut short, it can be erect. The tail grows long.
