[ INDEX ] Equine Type: Horse Breed: Burguete [ PREV ] [ NEXT ]
About:
The Burguete was created by breeders who crossed native Jaca Navarra horses (see 'Jaca Navarra') with horses of the breeds Comtois, Ardennais, Percheron, and, primarily, Breton, especially of the Postier type.
Today, conservation efforts are being made to protect this breed from extinction.
Breeding:
When it comes to breeding Burguete horses on Horse Isle, it is recommended to cross Jaca Navarra with either Breton or Comtois horses rather than with Ardennais or Percheron ones.
Conformation:
The conformation of Burguete horses is similar to that of Breton horses, and can generally be described as compact and muscular. The head is wide and has a straight or convex profile, the neck is thick and muscular, the chest is prominent, and the double croup is sloping.
The mane and tail can grow thick and are often wavy, and the legs are covered with feathering.
