The Cow-pony Highland is a medium-sized pony breed that is endemic to Horse Isle. It is based after the Malagasy Omby.

What's an Omby?
The Omby, also known as 'Madagascar Zebu', is a type of cattle found in Madagascar. There are millions of Omby cows in Madagascar, and they all play a vital role in the everyday life of Malagasy people.

Malagasy people use their cattle as a source of food, means of transportation, working the fields, pulling and carrying cargo, and as currency. Omby cows and bulls also serve as a token of honor and respect, and are sometimes offered as prize in competitions.

The Cow-pony Omby:
The Cow-pony Omby is a fictional breed that exists only in Horse Isle. It combines some of the traits seen in real Omby cattle with equine traits, resulting in an interesting looking pony.

Conformation:
The most striking character of the Omby is their very large hump that increases the Omby's ability to pull carts. Interestingly, this hump is found in both cows and bulls (though smaller on average in cows).

The Cow-pony Omby is no different and sports massive withers. Other characteristics are less striking and comes down to a short head with a concave profile, a short muzzle, ears that are horizontal, and a short neck. The back is arched as seen in some Omby individuals. The hindquarters are angular, and the hooves are very broad.

Last, similar to the real Ombythe ponies they have no manes and no feathering, but they do have a long, thin tail.

A thick neck, and frontal bosses, are a must:
Omby cows have a large dewlap that extends from the underside of their neck all the way to their chests. Cow-pony Ombies don't have this feature, but they do have a thick neck and a prominent chest. They also lack the horns seen in the real Omby, but they make up for it with a pair of prominent frontal bosses which are an absolute must in this breed.
