The Curly Sporthorse (also 'Curly Sport Horse') is, as the name suggests, a sport horse with a curly coat.

About:
This relatively new American breed was officially recognized in 2003, with the establishment of the Curly Sporthorse International registry by Elaine Elmer. The aim of the registry is to breed curly-coated sport horses, who can perform well in the disciplines of dressage, show-jumping, driving, eventing, and combined training.

The Curly Sporthorse breed is constantly being improved, a process which sometimes includes crossing curly sport horses with talented smooth-coated sport horses. Therefore, in Horse Isle, Curly Sporthorses can be crossed with sport warmbloods of breeds that excel at Olympic disciplines.

The curly coat and the Smooth Division:
Most Curly Sporthorses are curly thanks to a dominant gene which causes the curliness, meaning that heterozygous horses also have a curly coat. Crossing two heterozygous curly horses might result in a foal who has a smooth (not curly) coat. In this case, the foal will be registered in the smooth division (see the 'Curly Sporthorse - Smooth Division' for more info).

It is important to note that there is also a recessive form of curliness that exists in the Curly Sporthorse breed. However, this recessive curly gene doesn't exist in Horse Isle.

Conformation:
Curly Sporthorses don't have an official breed standard. However, they are requested to perform well in Olympic disciplines, and therefore, in Horse Isle, they have an overall conformation of a sport warmblood.

As such, they have a muscular neck, well-defined withers, a straight back, a slightly-sloping croup, and long legs. The mane is short or medium in length and the tail is usually short due to its curliness. Contrary to all other sport warmbloods, though, Curly Sporthorses can have light feathering on their legs.

Performance metrics:
The following are the: range, average, (SD), and MOE of performance metrics of ordered Curly Sporthorses in Horse Isle (not bred ones). In rare cases, horses might have metrics outside of the range. Breeders can produce horses that are beyond this range.
