The Deliboz (also: 'Dilbaz') is a rare Azerbaijani saddle breed, which is known for its unique 'forked' tongue.

Background:
The development of the Deliboz began in the 18th century, when Persian Arabs were crossed with Turkmen horses. In the 19th and 20th centuries the Deliboz also received Karabakh, Arabian, and, starting from the 1950s, Tersky blood, all of which had a great influence on the Deliboz.

Originally a popular breed, the numbers of Deliboz horses decreased so much during the 20th century that at one point people thought that the breed went extinct. However, it never did, and today it is a rare breed which is bred primarily in Azerbaijan.

Attributes:
Deliboz horses are known locally for their speed, agility, and strength, as well as for their outstanding endurance and an ability to cope with high altitudes. In addition, most, though not all, Deliboz horses are gaited, which makes them comfortable to ride. As such, Deliboz horses are primarily used for trekking.

That said, Deliboz horses are also known for their energetic and temperamental nature, which makes them unpredictable and therefore difficult to ride, especially for beginners.

Conformation:
While the Deliboz is considered an oriental saddle horse, their conformation is more robust than that of most oriental breeds. They have a short and wide head which tapers to a small muzzle, a high-set neck that is relatively short and thick, a broad body, a long croup, and solid legs with thick cannon bones.

Deliboz horses are also known for their unique tongue which has a unique fold at its base that makes it look forked.

The following are the: range, average, (SD), and MOE of performance metrics of ordered Deliboz horses in Horse Isle (not bred ones). In rare cases, horses might have metrics outside of the range. Breeders can produce horses that are beyond this range.
