Gaited horses show a number of movements in place of, or in addition to, the normal walk/trot/canter/gallop. Pacing is common and has a great many variants. All of them are four-beat gaits and are extremely comfortable to ride. In general, gaited breeds are short-backed and compact, but there is a great deal of variation.
