The Lokai is a saddle horse breed which was developed in the 16th century by the Uzbek Lokai tribe in Tadzhikistan. The breed was created by crossing native Tadzhikistan horses with Iomud, Akhal-Teke, Tersk, Karbair, and Arabian horses. The Lokai inherited the endurance, speed, and the energetic and stubborn temperament of its foundation breeds.

Unlike most horse breeds, certain aspects of the conformation of Lokai horses vary greatly between individuals. This is especially noted when it comes to the size and shape of their head. In addition, their legs tend to have irregular conformations, such as hind-legs that are cow-hocked, and front-legs that face outward. However, despite these deformities, Lokai horses are very agile, and serve as good saddle horses.

Lokai horses are said to be stubborn, but they will listen to the rider who trained them. They usually have a curly coat which is either bay, chestnut, or grey, and which sometimes has a golden sheen. It is a short breed, usually standing between 14hh and 14.3hh.
