The Modern Appaloosa is a subtype of the Appaloosa breed.

About:
Modern Appaloosas were created during the 20th century, by crossing Foundation Appaloosas horses with Quarter horses and Thoroughbred horses. They were developed to serve as racehorses (Thoroughbred crosses), or as ranch horses and halter horses (Quarter crosses) who are well-suited for Western disciplines.

Breeding:
Modern Appaloosas are allowed to be crossed with Quarter Horses, Arabians, and Thoroughbreds, as long as the Appaloosa parent has an 'appaloosa' (spotted) coat.

That said, in Horse Isle, the resulting Appaloosa still needs to conform to the breed standard in order to be registered as an Appaloosa. Therefore, breeders should avoid introducing too much Quarter/Thoroughbred/Arabian blood into their Appaloosa horses, as it might sway their conformation away from the Appaloosa's breed standard.

Conformation:
The conformation of the Modern Appaloosa is similar to the conformation of the Quarter Horse; the head and ears are relatively small, the profile is straight or slightly concave, and the body is wide and muscular, especially when it comes to the hindquarters which are large and well-muscled. In addition, some Modern Appaloosa horses have small hooves in a fashion similar to that of some lines of Quarter Horses.

Colors: all colors except for dominant-white and mushroom*.
* mushroom can be bred into this breed.

Additionals: all modifications except for extensive mealy (minimal-mealy exists). The coat is always 'appaloosa' spotted. Pinto is banned from this breed.
