About the 'Nokota' part:
The Nokota is a feral American horse breed that descends from Spanish horses which were owned by Native American tribes. During the 10th century, those horses went extinct across the US save for a single group of them who roamed in Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
In the 1980s, the park's management decided to 'improve' the herd's appearance by introducing Quarter stallions to the park. As part of their initiative, they captured many of the Nokota horses, including all of the stallions, and auctioned them (see 'Nokota' for more info.)
Many of the auctioned horses were bought by the brothers Leo and Frank Kuntz. Starting from 1990, in order to protect the Nokota from extinction, the brothers set up a breeding program on their farm for their purebred Nokota horses, where the horses lived in semi-feral conditions. Thanks to their efforts, the Nokota was saved from extinction.
About the 'National Park Cross' :
In addition to breeding purebred Nokotas and ensuring the survival of the Nokota breed, the Kuntz brothers also experimented with crossing their stock of Quarter and Paint horses with Nokota horses. The offspring, called 'National Park Crosses' (or 'NPC'), were often crossed with purebred Nokotas, resulting in foals who could carry up to 95% pure Nokota blood.
Breeding:
Real NPC Nokotas are traced to the Nokota stock of the Kuntz brothers and to the Quarter/Paint/Grade horses used by the brothers. Those horses have at least 50% foundation Nokota blood.
In Horse Isle, you can create NPC Nokotas by crossing Nokota horses with American Quarter or American Paint horses. Note that NPC Nokotas are not gaited, and so it is recommended to use non-gaited Nokotas as breeding stock for NPC Nokotas.
Furthermore, because NPC Nokotas must have at least 50% Nokota "foundation" blood, then in Horse Isle NPC Nokotas are not allowed to be crossed with any other breeds save for Nokotas or NPC Nokotas.
Conformation:
There is no official conformation standard for NPC Nokotas, but in Horse Isle they combine the squarish frame of the Nokota with the roundish and muscular traits of the Quarter and Paint breeds. This is especially noticeable in their hindquarters, that sport a sloping croup but also bulkier muscles compared to the Nokota's smooth hind muscles.
The mane is anywhere from short to long in length, and the tail grows long. The legs are either clear from feathering or have light feathering.
