[ INDEX ] Equine Type: Horse Breed: North American Sportpony (NASP) [ PREV ] [ NEXT ]
About:
Originally considered a subtype of the American Warmblood, the NASP was declared as a separate breed in 2003. The breeding goal of the NASP registry is to breed a sport pony which is suitable for Olympic disciplines as well as for driving.
Breeding:
The studbook of the NASP is an open one, and allows crossbreeding with other sport ponies and sport warmbloods. That said, sport warmbloods that don't match the breeding goal of the registry are not approved for breeding.
In Horse Isle, crossing large sport warmbloods with NASPs will result in a non-pure foal. The only exception for this rule is the American Warmblood, which is still closely related to the NASP.
Conformation:
The conformation of NASPs is similar to that of the American Warmblood, although some of them have "pony-like" characteristics like large eyes and a smaller head. NASPs who are taller than 14.2hh are eligible for registration as American Warmbloods.
This is why, in Horse Isle, the NASP is basically a smaller version of the American Warmblood (see the 'American Warmblood') but with a pony-like head.
The legs of NASPs are clear from feathering, so breeders in Horse Isle should avoid using feathered breeding stock when crossbreeding NASPs.
