The Nungchen is the tallest subtype of the Tibetan horse, and was developed from the Yushu (another subtype of the Tibetan horse.)

Nungchens are lighter and faster than their ancestors, but are also less hardy and require assistance for their survival outdoors. Nevertheless, their endurance is exceptional and allows them to race on the plateaus of Tibet.

In addition to their speed, Nungchens are also gaited and can amble and pace.

Conformation:
The conformation of the Nungchen is finer and more slender than that of other Tibetan subtypes. The head is short and has a straight or slightly concave profile, the neck is long and slender, the chest is broad, the legs are slender, and the hooves are small.

The mane and tail can grow thick.

Coats & Height:
Colors: bay, black, chestnut, grey, and more rarely, black and dun.
Additionals: flaxen, linebacked, mealy, sooty, dark mane & tail.
Height: 12.3hh to 13.1hh
