About:
The ancestors of the Rahvan are Anadolu and Canik horses that were crossed with each other during the 12th or 13th century. The result of these crossings was the Rahvan horse: a light breed that has an ambling gait, called 'rahvan,' which is similar to the running-walk.
For many years, Rahvans were raced in running-walk races, and were bred for their speed and endurance.
The Rahvan today:
Today, the Rahvan is still bred in Turkey, where it is known for its exceptional fast ambling gait, and serves as a racehorse. The speed of most Rahvan horses is around 33-36km/h, but the highest speed recorded for this breed is 43.1hkm/h.
Conformation:
While Rahvan horses are shorter than 14.2hh, they are regarded as horses, not ponies, because of their body proportions. Their conformation is characterized by a short and thick neck, a short back, a sloping croup, light hindquarters, and an overall light and athletic build.
The mane and tail are thin, with the mane being short or medium in length but the tail can grow long.
