The original Boulonnais:
Back in the 17th century, Boulonnais horses were relatively small in size, and stood only between 15hh and 15.3hh. They had the energetic temper, impressive endurance, and elegant action of their Oriental and Spanish ancestors, three traits which made them popular among French breeders. These Boulonnais horses were famous for pulling carts full of fish from the Boulonnais district to Paris fast enough that the fish stayed fresh.
Today, this original form of the Boulonnais breed is still around and s called "Small Boulonnais" ('Petite Boulonnais.')
