The Steppe Mongolian (also known as 'Galshar') is one of the four subtypes of the Mongolian horse.
For hundreds of years, Steppe Mongolians were selectively bred for their speed and stamina. This resulted in a lighter horse with a distinctively lean conformation. Despite being smaller on average than the Forest and Mountain Mongolians, Steppe Mongolians have greater speed, and today they are primarily used for racing.
Steppe Mongolian horses come in all colors and patterns, except for frame-overo, mushroom, dominant black, sabino, and manchado. They stand between 12hh and 13.2hh.
