[ INDEX ] Equine Type: Horse Breed: Suflinger [ PREV ] [ NEXT ]
Breeding:
Suflingers always have 50% Haflinger blood and 50% Suffolk blood. Therefore, they are created either by crossing a Haflinger with a Suffolk Punch, or by crossing two Suflingers.
Note that crossing a Suflinger with a different breed, including a Haflinger or a Suffolk Punch, will result in a grade foal.
Conformation:
Generally speaking, Suflingers look like heavy, muscular Haflingers. Their heads are broad and deep, with a straight profile and large eyes. Their necks are thick, and their crests can be large. Their backs are short-to-medium in length, their croups are rounded, and their legs have substance.
The legs are either clear of feathering or have light feathering along the back of the cannons and fetlocks. The mane and tail are anywhere from short to long, and their hair is either silky or wavy. Breeders must beware of using Haflingers with coarse hair, as this might lead to grade foals.
