A sport pony for young Swedish riders:
During the 1990s, Swedish breeders decided to develop a native sport pony breed, that will allow young Swedish riders to compete in show-jumping, dressage, and eventing in international levels.
These breeders combined the following breeds: Thoroughbred, Arabian, Anglo-Arabian, Shagya-Arabian, Swedish Warmblood, Connemara Pony, New Forest Pony, Dartmoor Pony, and Welsh pony and cob, with German, British, and Dutch riding ponies.
The Swedish Riding Pony today:
Today, Swedish Riding Ponies fulfill their role as athletic mounts for young riders who wish to compete in show-jumping and dressage.
As a breed, the Swedish Riding Pony is still being developed. In order to ensure its improvement, it is allowed to cross Swedish Riding Ponies with German Riding Ponies (GRP), British Riding Ponies (BRP), and Dutch Riding Ponies (NRPS Pony.)
Conformation:
Swedish Riding Ponies have a light head with large nostrils and large eyes, a long neck, prominent withers, a back of medium length, and rounded croup that is often lower than the withers. Overall, their body is light and athletic.
The hair of the mane and tail is straight. The mane grows short or medium in length, but the tail grows long.
