A small crossbred from across the pond:
Crossing Shetland stallions with Welsh Cob mares is not unheard of in the United Kingdom--the birthplace of both breeds. This crossbred has no official registry. It doesn't even have an official name. But it does make a good pony for young riders who outgrew their tiny Shetlands.
Breeding:
In Horse Isle, Welshlands have 50% Shetland Pony blood and 50% Welsh Cob blood. This means that while Welshlands can be crossed with each other, they cannot be crossed with Shetlands or with Welsh Cobs.
When picking a breeding stock, keep in mind that Welshlands are regular ponies (not cobs nor miniatures) that stand between 11hh and 14.1hh. It's best to use Welsh Cobs shorter than 14.2hh, and Shetland Ponies taller than 9hh.
