Origins:
The Zangersheide Stud, located in Lanaken, Belgium, started to breed show-jumping horses in the 1970s, under the supervision of Leon Melchior. However, it wasn't until 1992 when the Zangersheide breed was officially created, and its studbook was established. Horses which were bred as part of the Zangersheide breeding program marked with "Z."
Bred to jump:
The Zangersheide was created with one goal in mind: to serve as the ultimate horse for show-jumping. In order to achieve this standard of excellence, the Zangersheide has an open studbook, which allows crossbreeding with other sport warmblood breeds.
Breeding stock is selected based on its jumping skills, and its performance in show-jumping. So far, the breeding program was proved successful, and as of 2019 the Zangersheide was one of the top ranked breeds in show-jumping.

Colors & patterns: usually bay, brown, black, chestnut, or grey, but in Horse Isle they come in all colors nad patterns
Breeding notes: dominant black and leopard don't naturally occur in this breed, but can be bred into it.
